Importance of water
Thirsty, want to grab a cola? Hang on, have a glass of water instead because it’s the beverage your body needs most than anything else. We all mugged up as kids in school that water is a combination of 2 portions of hydrogen and one portion of oxygen (H2O), without actually realizing its value and worth in the true sense .It in fact makes up for two -thirds of the weight of the human body. Water is the lifeline for survival without which there would be no life whatsoever
Why Is Water So Important
60 to 70% of our body is estimated to be of water. All the major organs in the body like brain, lungs, and tissues like muscles and fluids like blood contain plenty of water.
It provides a means for all the nutrients to travel to all the body parts and also regulates body temperature; serves as a lubricant and is the source of saliva and the fluids surrounding the joints; helps prevent and ease constipation by moving food through the intestinal tract. Drinking a glass of water when you get hungry and before a meal or snack fills up the stomach briefly and makes you feel fuller and less hungry. People who wish to lose extra weight need to drink plenty of water. Drinking about 500 ml of water during a workout increases the body metabolism and helps burn calories.
Dehydration
Dehydration is a condition when your body does not have enough water and fluids as much as it should. We lose water through urination, sweat which could lead to dehydration and it could also be caused by not drinking enough water, or a mix of both. The more physically active you are the more water you lose. Beverages containing caffeine and alcohol also cause dehydration. Warning signs of mild dehydration comprise constant joint and muscle pains, lower back pain, headaches, and constipation. A strong odor to your urine with a yellow tint shows that you are not getting enough water. Thirst is an evident sign of dehydration and in fact, your body needs water long before you actually feel thirsty. How Much Water Do You Need
Suggested water intake is 8 glasses a day. If you drink coffee or alcohol, you need to have at least an equal amount of water. If you live in an absolutely dry climate you need to put in another 2 extra servings per day.
The best source of water is plain, pure drinking water. Sodas have unwanted sugars and are not the right source of fluid intake for your body, they contain high amount of calories which cause you more harm than doing any good , they in no way account for your daily dosage of water. Sports drinks include electrolytes and may be of use, you need to watch out for those added sugar and calories that add up to your weight.
It may not be all that simple to drink enough water on a busy day. But make sure you have water handy at all times by keeping a bottle of water with you when you are working, traveling, or exercising. Have a sip or two every 15 minutes, making it a habit. Do not wait until you get all parched up. If plain water is boring, add a dash of lemon or lime for that zing thing.
Along with drinking good amount of water having its benefits, looking at it also soothes you. Like a walk on the beach or looking at an aquarium calms you down and helps you greatly recuperate.
